Party leaders and loyalists of President Bola Tinubu have intensified consultations to prevent deeper cracks within the APC.

President Tinubu appealed to aspirants and party members to avoid bitter politics and conduct themselves peacefully during the primaries.

He warned that internal fights could strengthen the opposition and urged both winners and losers to accept the outcome in good faith.

He also asked governors and party leaders to provide a fair platform for all contestants.

Disagreements have already surfaced in states including Kano, Taraba, Oyo, Kaduna and Abia, where consensus arrangements collapsed in several constituencies.

Some aspirants rejected pressure to withdraw from contests, insisting on direct primaries instead.

In Oyo, angry party members protested at the APC secretariat over alleged attempts to impose candidates.

Despite the growing tension, some states such as Borno and Sokoto recorded smoother negotiations after stakeholders agreed on consensus candidates.

Party leaders in those states said consultations helped prevent major disputes. The APC primaries are expected to continue until the presidential primary fixed for May 25, 2026.
