Former President Goodluck Jonathan has challenged a lawsuit filed to stop him from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The case was brought by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, who is asking the court to declare Jonathan ineligible for another presidential race.

The suit argues that Jonathan had already completed the constitutional limit after taking over from late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2010 and later winning the 2011 election.

The plaintiff also wants the court to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission from accepting Jonathan’s name for the poll.

During proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Jonathan’s legal team opposed the suit and questioned why the matter was being revived despite earlier court decisions on similar issues.

His lawyer told the court that all necessary processes were being prepared in response to the case.

The matter was later adjourned as the legal battle over Jonathan’s eligibility for the 2027 election continues.

The court is expected to revisit the case in the coming days as both sides prepare their arguments.
