The decision follows a recent change involving the former occupant of the position.
The seat was declared open after Jimoh Ibrahim took up a new role as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
His appointment created the vacancy in the National Assembly.
Akpabio called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to organise a bye-election within 30 days to fill the position, in line with the law guiding such cases.
He also directed the Clerk of the National Assembly to formally notify the electoral body so that the process can begin without delay.
