Kano Assembly Sets Date For Deputy Screening
The Kano State House of Assembly has fixed Monday to screen Murtala Sule Garo as deputy governor.
The move follows his nomination by Abba Yusuf to fill the vacant position. Lawmakers are expected to review his credentials before making a final decision.
The announcement was made by the spokesperson to the Speaker, Kamaludden Shawai, who confirmed that the Assembly had received the governor’s letter.
The nomination has now been formally tabled for consideration and approval.
Garo’s nomination is in line with constitutional provisions that allow a governor to appoint a deputy when a vacancy occurs.
The process requires screening and confirmation by the Assembly before the appointment becomes official.
The position became vacant after the resignation of the former deputy governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, in March 2026.
The upcoming screening will determine whether Garo takes over the role.
