In Washington, representatives of Atiku Abubakar held talks with senior aides of the US House Democratic Caucus over concerns about Nigeria’s elections.

The meeting, organised remotely, was facilitated by Von Batten-Montague-York, recently hired by the former vice-president.

The engagement focused on claims about the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
It added that “The meeting addressed serious concerns regarding election integrity in Nigeria, including credible allegations that the current government is working to circumvent the will of the Nigerian people through electoral manipulation.”

The move followed a contract signed in March between the firm’s managing partner, Karl Von Batten, and a Nigerian associate, setting out plans to boost Atiku’s standing abroad.
The agreement also includes efforts to counter the Nigerian government’s lobbying narratives in the United States.
Under the deal, the firm is expected to arrange meetings with US officials and provide advice on policy and strategy.
It also plans to push for action against individuals accused of electoral misconduct in Nigeria, including possible sanctions such as travel bans and asset restrictions.
The initiative comes amid rising global attention on election practices in the country.
