A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to stop recognising Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary, citing a court ruling that upheld his expulsion.

The group said the Abuja High Court had confirmed Anyanwu’s removal after a disciplinary process over alleged anti-party actions, adding that the decision remains valid.

It argued that the electoral body’s continued recognition of him goes against the judgment, especially as his appeal does not suspend the ruling.
The faction also pointed to earlier developments, including the Ibadan convention where its leadership emerged and the Court of Appeal ruling that voided its own structure while still affirming the expulsion.
It said the matter is now before the Supreme Court, but insisted the existing judgment must be respected until overturned.
The legal team warned that failure to act could lead to further action against the commission, including court proceedings.
The crisis has deepened divisions within the party, as both camps push for control while the 2027 elections draw closer.
