There Is A Plot To Weaken ADC – Kenneth Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged a plot to weaken the African Democratic Congress as its leadership crisis worsens ahead of the 2027 elections.

The dispute involves rival factions clashing over control of the party and interpretation of court rulings.

The conflict centres on the meaning of a Court of Appeal order and the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission in recognising party leadership.

While one camp insists the current leadership remains valid, another argues the party should revert to its earlier structure.

Okonkwo said, “It is very ridiculous for a man… to go to court to challenge the leadership of ADC,” maintaining that recognition by INEC cannot be overturned by interim court orders.

“Maintaining status quo means you should not do anything that will disadvantage either party. INEC has already recognised us… what the court said confirmed our leadership.”

However, party spokesman Bashir Abdul-Mohammed disagreed, insisting the crisis stems from an unlawful takeover. He said, “We are not in a banana republic… we are all subject to the law,” arguing that Nafiu Bala remains the rightful leader under the party’s constitution.

The standoff has raised concerns about the party’s readiness for 2027, as both sides continue legal battles and public exchanges. Observers say the outcome could shape the ADC’s future and its role in the coming elections.
