Obi Slams Tinubu Over Jos Visit

Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his recent visit to Plateau State, saying the approach failed to meet the expectations of leadership during a crisis.

The former Labour Party candidate said the President chose to engage victims at the airport rather than visiting affected communities. He made the remarks in a post shared on Friday.

The reaction followed Tinubu’s condolence visit after deadly attacks in parts of Jos. Obi said such moments require leaders to be physically present where the pain is felt most.

He argued that meeting victims away from the scene sends the wrong message to grieving families.

“During his visit to Benue State in June 2025, Bola Ahmed Tinubu stopped at the Government House but did not go to the actual scene where innocent Nigerians lost their lives.

Similarly, yesterday in Jos, his engagement ended at the airport instead of at the affected communities.

This approach exacerbates the sense of abandonment already felt by innocent Nigerians who have endured repeated cycles of violence without meaningful protection or justice.

Obi maintained that leadership should go beyond public appearances and focus on direct engagement with affected communities.

He called for a more responsive approach to insecurity, urging leaders to act in ways that restore trust and provide real support to victims.
