The All Progressives Congress has responded to the crisis in the African Democratic Congress, saying the opposition party is responsible for its own problems.

The reaction followed a leadership dispute that led to the electoral body withdrawing recognition from rival factions. The development has added to growing tension within the opposition camp.

The dispute centres on competing claims to the party’s leadership, involving David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and another faction.

The situation forced the commission to step back from recognising any side as the legal leadership. This has left the party divided as legal battles continue.

“When its factional leadership under the duo of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola parachuted into the party like thoughtless and planless commandos, and hijacked the party in violent violation of its constitutional stipulations regarding leadership succession, and in disregard of the rule of law, the ADC set its own date with destiny,” Morka stated.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC’s decision to de-recognise the factional David Mark-led executives in compliance with judgment of court is valid in law, justified in fact, and consistent with electoral policy and democratic practice.

It is the consequence of the Party’s reckless and desperate misadventure.

The APC also dismissed claims that it is behind the crisis, insisting the opposition created its own challenges. It added that a party unable to manage its affairs cannot offer leadership to the country.

The ruling party maintained that its government remains focused on governance despite the ongoing political dispute.
