Court Cancels Warrant Against PDP Factional Chairman Turaki

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has set aside an arrest warrant issued against Tanimu Turaki after he appeared before the court in Abuja on Wednesday.

The warrant had earlier been issued over his absence at a previous hearing.
Justice Peter Kekemeke ruled in favour of vacating the order following an application by Turaki’s lawyer, Chris Uche, who apologised for his client’s earlier absence.

The court accepted the explanation and decided to pardon the defendant.
Turaki is facing a one-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force, accusing him of giving false information in a petition.
The prosecution did not oppose the request to withdraw the arrest warrant since the defendant had appeared in court.
The court, however, declined to proceed with the arraignment and struck out a related motion after it was withdrawn by the defence. The matter was adjourned to April 22 for Turaki to take his plea.
