The move follows protests by students over high accommodation costs.

Majority Leader Ikenga Ofodeme said lawmakers are already working on a bill to address excessive charges by landlords and agents.

He assured that the Assembly is taking the concerns seriously and will act to protect residents from exploitation.

Also speaking, Anayo Okpalaeke said the Assembly is committed to resolving the issue quickly. He noted that rising rent affects not just students but also their families.

The protest was led by the National Association of Nigerian Students, whose members demanded urgent action to regulate rent and agency fees.

They said the current system lacks control, allowing landlords and agents to impose high and inconsistent charges.

Student leaders insisted that only a clear legal framework can bring order to the housing sector and ease the burden on thousands of undergraduates across the state.

Lawmakers say the proposed law will set standards and bring relief if passed.
