Nigeria Police Force Clarifies IGP New Directive
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed reports that Tunji Disu ordered the disbandment of all police units nationwide, saying the claim misrepresents his directive.
According to the force, the IGP only approved a reduction in the number of tactical teams across commands to address concerns over excessive units and manpower shortages at police stations.
Under the new arrangement, state and zonal commands are to operate a limited number of teams, while divisions and area commands will maintain fewer units.
Officials say this will allow more officers to be deployed to regular policing duties.
The police added that special outfits set up by state governments are not affected, stressing that the move is aimed at improving oversight, reducing complaints, and making the force more effective.
