The Nigeria Police Force has announced the posting of Deputy Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar as the new head of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit at the Force Headquarters, following the removal of Akin Fakorede.

The shake-up also saw Anthony Okon Placid appointed as the new Force Public Relations Officer, replacing Benjamin Hundeyin. Officers were instructed to update records in line with the postings.
Fakorede, a former Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) commander, had faced allegations of brutality, extrajudicial killings, and election interference.
His leadership included a controversial land dispute in Abuja and incidents where journalists and workers were reportedly attacked during protests, raising concerns from civil society organisations and political figures.
The change comes under the leadership of IGP Olatunji Disu, who aimed to restore credibility to the monitoring unit.
