She described the report as disturbing and warned that rising political tension could damage Nigeria’s democracy.

She stated that violence and intimidation must not define political rivalry, noting that democracy rests on open debate and respect for opposing views.

The senator also expressed concern that some political actors may resort to aggression in an attempt to show loyalty to influential leaders.

Her appeal followed reports that Obi, Odigie-Oyegun and other ADC leaders were reportedly confronted by suspected thugs in Benin during events linked to Olumide Akpata’s formal move into the party.

Although details remain unclear, the claims have stirred nationwide discussion.

Images shared by Obi’s former campaign spokesman, Dr Yunusa Tanko, showed damaged vehicles and a residence gate marked with bullet holes.

Akpoti-Uduaghan called for a full investigation and accountability, insisting that political disputes must be resolved through lawful and peaceful means.
