APC Halts Abia Congresses Amid Otti Defection Rumors
The All Progressives Congress has suspended its ward, local government and state congresses in Abia State, a move that has stirred fresh political tension.
The decision was conveyed in a letter dated February 18, 2026, to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The party’s National Working Committee explained that the halt followed “ongoing consultations” and the need to conclude certain preparatory and administrative processes.
It said the exercise would resume once arrangements are finalised to ensure a smooth and credible outing.
The development has intensified rumours that Governor Alex Otti may be weighing a switch to the ruling party.
Although the APC did not directly link the suspension to any political talks, party insiders believe internal adjustments may be underway.
The party assured INEC that a new timetable would be released in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and relevant guidelines.
Neither the APC leadership nor Governor Otti has confirmed any defection plan, but the pause has added fresh intrigue to Abia’s political landscape.
