Why I Appeared Weak — Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has said his decision to appear weak during the political crisis in the state was a deliberate move aimed at preserving peace.

Speaking on Friday night while receiving the Man of the Year 2025 award from New Telegraph at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, the governor said his calm and non-confrontational posture was strategic.

According to a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Fubara acknowledged the sacrifices of his supporters, noting that many who stood by him have endured “special pain” because of their loyalty.

“Today for me is a very special day, and also special for everyone who has believed in me. And I know for believing in me you have a share of special pain,” he said.

Explaining his approach to the crisis, Fubara added: “I chose for a lot of reasons to be weak. Weak because I want peace.

Weak because I need to also protect those things that are dear not just to me but to our dear nation.”

He described the perceived weakness as a virtue that would yield positive outcomes in due time, urging supporters to remain steadfast.

“Continue to believe in what you believe in. Weakness is a virtue. It pays at the right time,” he said.

The award was presented by veteran journalist and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, alongside the Chairman of the Board of New Telegraph, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.
