During cross examination by prosecution counsel Rotimi Jacobs SAN, Idris maintained that although some lawyers were present when he signed statements at the EFCC, he did not retain their services.

He said Erokoro approached him while he was in custody seeking to be engaged, but the request was declined.

He also claimed the statements were not made voluntarily.

The court heard that Idris made 16 statements to the EFCC, though only 13 were tendered.

He further stated that he first visited the commission on his own and was not arrested at the time.

The matter was adjourned to April 21 for continuation of the trial within trial.
