Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el Rufai has revealed that he and President Bola Tinubu were never allies, saying their political paths were never aligned.

He made the remarks during a television interview while addressing claims that they once shared a close relationship.

He explained that his backing of Tinubu in the 2023 election was rooted in party loyalty, not personal ties.

As a founding member of the APC, he said there had been an internal agreement for power to return to the South after Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, and he stood by that arrangement.


After Tinubu secured the party ticket, el Rufai said he committed himself to the campaign out of duty to the APC.

However, he noted that deep differences in beliefs and governance style meant there was never common ground between them.


He went further to criticise the direction of the current administration, insisting it clashes with his values and approach to public service.

According to him, even if he had been confirmed as a minister, he would not have stayed long, maintaining that he and the President remain on separate tracks that will never cross.
