The Federal Capital Territory Administration has paid part of the outstanding salary arrears owed to its workers, days before a planned protest by organised labour in Abuja.

The move came as pressure mounted from the Nigeria Labour Congress over delays in settling entitlements.

The payment followed growing tension after labour unions warned of mass action if the government failed to respond to workers’ demands.

The arrears are linked to unpaid allowances and adjustments that had lingered for months, affecting civil servants across the territory.

Officials confirmed that the payment was only partial, with discussions still ongoing on how and when the balance would be cleared.

Labour leaders acknowledged the development but maintained that the protest would remain an option if full payments are not made promptly.

The situation has drawn attention to rising labour unrest in the FCT, as workers struggle with the cost of living and delayed benefits.

Talks between the FCTA and union representatives are expected to continue in an effort to prevent disruption of activities in the capital.
