Yusuf Defection Does Not Weaken Party – NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party in Plateau State says the defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressive Congress will not weaken the party or affect its chances in the 2027 elections.

Party leaders insist the NNPP remains steady despite the development.

The position was made public by the Plateau State Chairman of the NNPP, Comrade Tokji Nadem, who spoke in reaction to the governor’s exit.

He said the move came unexpectedly, especially considering Yusuf’s long-standing role in the party and his close political ties with its national leader, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Looking ahead, Nadem expressed confidence in the NNPP’s future, especially in Kano State, and criticised the growing trend of political defections.

He said the party would continue to move forward without Yusuf and urged lawmakers to address frequent party switching.

He said, “When we started the party, nobody believed that the party would be a force to be reckoned with, but look at it today; the party is standing. All these are as a result of the doggedness of our leader, Engr. In Kwankwaso.

“His resignation is not a big deal; though it is painful, the party will forge ahead without him. The party is not standing because of him; the party is with the people.”
