Fresh Resignation Hits Kano Government

A Kano State commissioner has stepped down from office, accusing the state government of straying from the principles that brought it to power.

Yusuf Kofarmata announced his resignation on Sunday, ending his role as a member of the State Executive Council.

The resignation came from Kofarmata, who previously served in the ministries of Tertiary Education and Science, Technology and Innovation.

He said the decision was taken in good faith and guided by personal conviction, insisting he could no longer serve under an administration he believes has lost its original direction.

In his statement, he said, “I hereby resign my appointment as commissioner and member of the Kano State Executive Council. I cannot continue to work under a government that has derailed from the ideology that brought it to power.”

He added that his action was driven by conscience rather than pressure or personal interest.

Kofarmata expressed appreciation to the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party for the opportunity to serve. He also thanked the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement for standing by him during his time in office.

Despite leaving office, the former commissioner reaffirmed his loyalty to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement, declaring, “Long live NNPP, long live the Kwankwasiyya movement.”

His resignation comes amid rising political tension in Kano following Governor Yusuf’s recent exit from the party, a development that has triggered resignations and realignments as political actors reposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
