INEC Clarifies PVC Collection Confusion

The Independent National Electoral Commission has clarified that the current Permanent Voter Card collection exercise is meant only for residents of the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the February 21, 2026, area council elections.

The clarification followed growing confusion after INEC announced the start of PVC distribution, prompting residents in other states to seek details about collection in their areas.

The commission addressed the issue through its official social media platform to prevent the spread of wrong information.
INEC explained that the ongoing exercise is strictly limited to the FCT because of the upcoming local government polls. It stressed that no timetable has been set for PVC collection in other states at this time.
For eligible voters in the FCT, PVCs are being distributed at registration areas across the wards from January 22 to January 26, between 9am and 3pm daily. Those who miss the ward-level collection will still have the opportunity to collect their cards later at area council offices within the territory.
The commission assured Nigerians outside the FCT that official dates for PVC collection in other states will be announced once finalised. It urged the public to wait for verified updates and avoid relying on unconfirmed reports.
