EFCC Probes Farouk Ahmed Over Dangote Allegations
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into a petition by billionaire Aliko Dangote against former NMDPRA Managing Director, Farouk Ahmed.

The petition alleges that Ahmed misused public funds, spending millions of dollars on his children’s education abroad.
Dangote initially filed the complaint with the ICPC in December 2025, claiming Ahmed spent around $7 million on secondary schooling in Switzerland, in breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers. Although Dangote later withdrew the ICPC petition, he submitted a fresh one to the EFCC in July 2025.

EFCC sources confirmed that the commission has begun contacting institutions and parties named in the petition to verify claims, including potential communication with the Swiss school mentioned. Ahmed has not yet been invited, as the commission’s procedure requires gathering evidence from all relevant entities before confronting the accused.

In 2024, EFCC investigations into former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello included verification of school fee transfers to foreign institutions, setting a precedent for cross-border checks.
The EFCC’s investigation marks another high-profile probe into alleged misuse of public funds, signaling intensified scrutiny of officials’ financial conduct. No date has been set yet for Ahmed’s formal questioning.
