The party described the attempt as a “legislative coup d’état” and called for adherence to a court injunction restraining the Chief Judge from acting on any related resolutions.

The APC, through spokesperson Darlington Nwauju of the Emeka Beke-led faction, said most of the lawmakers involved are members of the ruling party, expressing concern that their actions undermine the party’s stability and collective interest in Rivers State. The party warned that such steps could threaten the APC’s survival locally.
While acknowledging that the constitution allows the legislature to conduct impeachment, the APC noted that definitions of “gross misconduct” are largely subjective and open to political interpretation.

APC also urged its national leadership to activate internal mechanisms to safeguard the party from further political embarrassment.
The development comes amid heightened tension in Rivers State politics, with the House of Assembly pressing forward with impeachment plans despite legal challenges and ongoing party disputes.
