Fireworks Spark Abuja Restaurant Blaze

Early Thursday morning in Abuja, a fire broke out at Cake Hut Restaurant in Wuse 2 during New Year celebrations, causing panic but no loss of life.

The incident happened just after midnight as residents welcomed 2026.
The Federal Capital Territory Fire Service responded after receiving an emergency call around 12:25 a.m. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the restaurant following the alert.

According to the fire service, the blaze started when an object thrown from outside the premises during celebrations landed on a thatched section of the restaurant’s roof. The material caught fire quickly and spread before help arrived.
Fire crews from both the FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service worked together to contain the flames. Police officers also assisted by clearing traffic to allow emergency vehicles easy access to the area.

The combined response helped bring the fire under control by about 1:20 a.m. The restaurant suffered damage, but the situation was prevented from getting worse due to the swift action of responders.
Officials confirmed that no injuries or deaths were recorded. Authorities have advised residents to be cautious during celebrations to avoid actions that could lead to fires or other emergencies.
