Residents of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State heard fresh political signals on Sunday as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the state would correct its leadership choice in the 2027 elections during a visit to Bori.

Wike told community leaders and residents that political leaders are meant to reflect the people’s will, not personal interests, adding that Rivers would not repeat what he described as a leadership error at the state level when the next election comes.

Speaking during what he called a thank-you visit, the former governor said he came to appreciate the people of Khana for standing by him and President Bola Tinubu during difficult times, especially in the 2023 elections when support for the president was seen as risky in some areas.
He said that loyalty shown by the area had brought visible benefits, including improved roads, federal appointments and the establishment of the University of Environment, noting that more opportunities were still on the way for Ogoniland.

Wike also said future voting decisions in Rivers would no longer be based strictly on party lines but on unity and shared purpose under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which he said would drive development across the state.
Local leaders echoed his message, with lawmakers and council officials praising both Wike and Tinubu for projects and appointments linked to Ogoniland, while pledging continued political support ahead of future elections.
Women leaders in the area also voiced readiness to mobilise for Tinubu if he seeks a second term, saying Wike’s consistent presence and support had earned him strong backing across Khana.
