The New Nigeria People’s Party has appointed Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as acting chairman in Kano State following the removal of the former chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, as the party moves to steady its leadership.

The change was announced on Tuesday in Kano after an emergency meeting of the party’s state executive committee at the NNPP secretariat, where Abiya’s emergence was approved by party leaders.
The decision followed complaints raised by party executives at the Dawakin Tofa Local Government level, who accused Dungurawa of actions that went against party interests after the last general election.

According to party officials, a resolution from the Gargari Ward executive was reviewed and adopted by the state leadership, leading to the endorsement of Abiya in line with the party’s constitution.
Party leaders said the move was taken to restore discipline, rebuild unity, and prepare the NNPP for future political activities in Kano State.
Speaking after his emergence, Abiya pledged fairness within the party and loyalty to the NNPP national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as the party awaits a possible response from the national leadership.
