ADC Slams Tinubu Over US Airstrikes in Sokoto

The African Democratic Congress has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing Nigerians after United States forces carried out airstrikes on suspected terrorist locations in Sokoto State.

The criticism followed confirmation that the strikes, carried out by the US Africa Command, hit targets in the North-West, raising questions about Nigeria’s control over its own security operations.
The opposition party said the development exposed deep weaknesses in how the federal government is handling insecurity, arguing that a country facing years of violence should not depend on foreign forces to act on its soil.
According to the ADC, the manner Nigerians learned about the operation worsened public concern, as the first announcement came from US President Donald Trump rather than from Nigeria’s president or security chiefs.

The party also questioned why Nigerian forces did not lead the operation if intelligence was available locally, despite huge sums spent on defence over the years.
The ADC demanded clear answers from the government on how many terrorists were killed, what role Nigerian forces played, and whether more foreign strikes should be expected, warning that repeated reliance on outsiders could weaken national authority and public trust.
