NDA Explains Steps Taken Over Missing Cadet

The Nigerian Defence Academy has responded to reports about a cadet declared missing, saying claims of negligence are not true.

The academy said it followed laid-down procedures after noticing the absence of Cadet Stephen Gani.

The academy explained that the cadet was a member of the 76 Regular Course and resumed training in August 2024. His training reportedly went on normally until he was found to be absent from the campus in April 2025.

According to the NDA, the cadet left the academy without permission on April 28, 2025. Officials said his absence was noticed through routine checks used to track the movement and presence of cadets.

Three days after he failed to return, the academy said it officially informed his parents, in line with its rules. After seven days without any contact or return, the cadet was removed from the academy’s active list through standard administrative action.

The NDA said further action was taken after feedback from the cadet’s family showed that his location was still unknown. This led the academy to reopen investigations, which it said are still ongoing.

The academy said it remains committed to the safety and welfare of all cadets, adding that regular inspections and accountability systems are in place. It urged the public to disregard claims suggesting the institution ignored the situation.
