The African Democratic Congress has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of acting with political intent following the withdrawal of bail earlier granted to former Attorney General Abubakar Malami.

The issue centres on Malami, a senior lawyer, ADC member, and governorship aspirant in Kebbi State, who is under EFCC investigation over multiple allegations, including abuse of office. He has denied links to terrorism financing and insists he has cooperated fully with investigators.

The party said the bail was revoked despite the absence of any breach of the conditions attached to his release. According to ADC, available information shows Malami complied with all requirements set by the anti-graft agency.

ADC linked the EFCC action to Malami’s recent appearance at a political gathering in Kebbi State, suggesting the timing raised concerns about the motive behind the decision and whether it was aimed at restricting his political activities.

While restating its support for efforts to fight corruption, the party warned that targeting opposition figures through selective enforcement weakens public trust and damages the credibility of anti-corruption institutions.

The ADC called for Malami’s immediate release on bail, insisting that no government agency has the power to limit a citizen’s political rights, and maintained that he should be presumed innocent until a court decides otherwise.
