PRP Rejects Rumoured Move By Governor Bala

The Peoples Redemption Party in Bauchi State has dismissed talk that Governor Bala Mohammed may join the party, insisting there is no space for him.

The warning came in a statement released on Wednesday by the party’s state secretary, Wada Abdullahi, after rumours spread that the governor might defect from the troubled Peoples Democratic Party.

The speculation grew following tension within the PDP and claims that the party is weakening across the country. Supporters circulated suggestions that the governor could be seeking a new platform ahead of the 2027 elections. The PRP, however, moved quickly to shut down the idea and distance itself from the governor.

The party said it cannot accept Governor Bala because it is guided by firm principles and expects discipline from anyone who joins its ranks. It described his time in office as underwhelming and said his performance does not reflect the standards the party wants to maintain. The PRP added that welcoming him would contradict the ideals it was built upon.

PRP leaders also referenced the conduct of the governor and his supporters during recent political activity in Abuja, describing the behaviour as disorderly. They said the party prides itself on calm and responsible politics and will not compromise those values for any individual, no matter their position.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the party declared that if it comes into power, it plans to examine the governor’s policies and actions. It pointed to issues such as the creation of a new First Class Emirate and the appointment of his elder brother as Emir, saying these decisions deserve a full review and possible reversal if found harmful to Bauchi State.

Despite rejecting the governor, the PRP stressed that it remains open to people who have worked for the progress of the state. The party said its doors are open to sincere citizens who want to contribute to development and share its commitment to integrity and public service.
