Peter Obi says the coalition formed around the African Democratic Congress is battling internal strain as unresolved zoning issues threaten its unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

He noted that the group cannot move forward unless all parties reach a clear understanding on how key political positions will be shared.

He spoke during an interview on the YouTube programme Advocacy for Good Governance, where he explained that he supports the coalition as a member of the Labour Party but needs clarity on the agreements guiding it. He said the coalition currently relies on informal arrangements about the presidency and rotation of offices, a setup he believes could spark conflict if left unresolved.

He added that the parties involved must sit together and define their goals for the country, stressing that the coalition still has areas that need tidy, formal agreement. He described these gaps as issues that must be properly addressed before the alliance can function smoothly.
Obi also expressed belief in the coalition’s leadership, pointing to former Senate President David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as figures with the experience to guide the group. He described Atiku as someone he respects and believes is committed to Nigeria’s progress.
He made it clear that his commitment to the coalition is not tied to becoming its presidential flag-bearer. He said his focus remains on seeing Nigeria work and not on pursuing personal ambition.
