Adeleke Set to Announce New Party Before December 13

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is expected to unveil his new political party before December 13, following his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, disclosed the timeline during a political programme in Osogbo on Tuesday.

The governor’s departure from the PDP was made official after he submitted his resignation letter on November 4 to party leaders in his ward in Ede North. According to Alimi, the move came after long-standing internal problems within the PDP, especially at the national level.

Alimi urged residents to stay calm and continue backing Adeleke, saying the governor’s decision was driven by the need to avoid complications ahead of next year’s governorship race. With the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination window closing on December 15, he explained that remaining in a divided party would have created legal and political risks for the governor.

The commissioner dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress is celebrating Adeleke’s resignation. He argued that the opposition had expected him to remain in the PDP so they could exploit the party’s internal conflict and challenge his candidacy. He said the governor acted early to avoid falling into that trap.

Alimi added that ongoing talks will determine Adeleke’s next political home, but the public will know before December 13. He noted that party primaries and nomination deadlines make the timing crucial.

He maintained that Adeleke’s exit could have been avoided if the PDP had resolved its internal fractures. According to him, the national leadership crisis made it impossible for the governor to continue in the party as the election approached.
