The Kogi State House of Assembly has suspended Emmanuel Onuche, Chairman of Ibaji Local Government Area, over allegations of gross misconduct and actions said to have brought disrepute to the state.

The decision was taken during Wednesday’s plenary session, where lawmakers agreed that the chairman’s continued stay in office could hinder a fair investigation.

Following the suspension, Onuche was ordered to hand over the affairs of the council to his deputy, Victoria Okolo, pending the outcome of the probe.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, announced the formation of a five-member committee to investigate the allegations against the chairman. The panel will be led by Hon. Bode Ogunmola, with Hon. Ishaya Omotayo Adeleye, Hon. Asema Baba Haruna, Hon. Anthony Ujah, and Hon. Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijani as members. Muhammed Bello will serve as the committee’s clerk.
The committee has been given one month to complete its investigation and present a report to the House for further action.
The suspension marks the latest in a series of disciplinary steps by the Assembly aimed at strengthening accountability and transparency in local government administration across the state.
