The Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream) and representative of Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Hon. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party, citing unresolved leadership crises within the party.

Koki made his decision public on Wednesday through a post on his official X handle, confirming that his resignation took effect on November 11, 2025. In his letter to the NNPP ward chairperson in Zaitawa, he said the persistent internal turmoil at the party’s national level had made it difficult for him to continue serving effectively.

The lawmaker, who joined the NNPP ahead of the 2023 elections, won his seat under its platform, reflecting the party’s rising popularity in Kano’s metropolitan areas. However, he noted that the ongoing disputes among party leaders had hindered his ability to deliver quality representation to his constituents.

Koki expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the opportunity to serve, saying his time in the party had provided valuable experience and support. He also thanked members and leaders at all levels for their cooperation during his tenure.
His exit adds to a growing list of prominent defections from the NNPP, which has been battling internal divisions since after the general elections. Earlier, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi also dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, describing his move as a step toward restoring national unity.
Koki’s resignation further exposes the cracks within the NNPP as the party struggles to maintain cohesion ahead of future political contests.
