Heavy Security As Court Adjourns PDP Convention Case Again

Tight security marked proceedings at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan on Monday as the case challenging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention suffered another adjournment.

Justice Ladiran Akintola, presiding over the matter filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, and others, adjourned the hearing of the Motion on Notice to Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

The judge directed counsels for both parties to file all necessary processes before the next sitting, saying the adjournment would allow the court to take all pending applications together. The case had earlier been postponed from November 10 after Justice Akintola granted an ex-parte motion permitting the PDP to proceed with its scheduled national convention.

Adelabi had approached the court seeking an order to restrain the party, its acting chairman, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri—who chairs the National Convention Organising Committee—and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from frustrating or derailing the planned convention.

The court, while granting its earlier order, instructed the PDP leadership to strictly comply with the timetable and guidelines already published for the convention.

However, Monday’s proceedings were held under tight security as journalists were denied access to the courtroom. Security personnel were stationed at strategic points around the court premises, blocking reporters from covering the session.

The case, which has drawn attention ahead of the PDP’s national convention, will resume on Wednesday when the court is expected to address all outstanding motions.
