Onitsha Bridge Locked Down As Traffic Stalls During Anambra Election

The Anambra governorship election caused major traffic gridlock in Onitsha on Saturday as security operatives cordoned off the Niger Bridge, leaving trucks and vehicles stranded for hours.

The restriction, according to officials, was to control movement and safeguard personnel transporting election materials across the state. However, the move left several commercial trucks loaded with goods parked along the route, leading to heavy congestion.

Despite the logjam, voting continued smoothly in various parts of Anambra, with officials deployed to more than 5,000 polling units across the 21 local government areas.

The situation on the bridge remained tense as stranded drivers expressed frustration over the prolonged lockdown, while security personnel maintained the barricades to ensure order during the poll.
