Adelabu Gives N25m Relief To Victims Of Oyo Demolition

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has donated ₦25 million to residents affected by the ongoing demolition exercise linked to the Ibadan Circular Road project in Oyo State.

The gesture aims to ease the hardship faced by displaced families whose homes and properties were destroyed.

Adelabu, a leading figure of the All Progressives Congress and a likely 2027 governorship contender, made the donation during an interactive meeting with affected residents. He said the fund would serve as an immediate relief package to help victims secure temporary housing while awaiting long-term solutions.

The Ibadan Circular Road project, which covers a 113-kilometre stretch, has sparked outrage from residents whose buildings were either demolished or marked within the project’s 500-metre buffer zone. Many of the victims have accused the state government of failing to provide adequate compensation before the demolitions began.

Adelabu explained that his support was driven by compassion rather than politics, stressing that development should not come at the cost of people’s welfare. He urged the state government to pursue progress responsibly and ensure that projects are carried out with fairness and empathy.

Community leaders, including Chief Sule Asanke of Asanke Village, appealed to the minister to engage Governor Seyi Makinde to suspend further demolitions. Some residents also shared their personal losses, calling for urgent intervention to prevent more hardship.

In response, Adelabu promised to liaise with both federal and state authorities to find a peaceful and just resolution. He also encouraged residents to remain calm, assuring them that their concerns would be addressed through lawful and diplomatic channels.
