PDP Vows To Uphold Peace And Democracy Despite Court Ruling

The Peoples Democratic Party has reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and the defence of democracy following a court ruling that stopped its planned national convention.

Lagos PDP leader and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, said this during a press conference on Wednesday in Lagos. He was reacting to the Federal High Court judgment of October 31, delivered by Justice James Omotosho, which halted the convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.

George described the ruling as a “recipe for anarchy” and a violation of judicial principles, arguing that the Supreme Court had already ruled that internal party matters such as congresses and conventions were beyond court jurisdiction.

He accused the judge of “judicial overreach” and warned that such actions could endanger democracy. George also alleged that the judgment emboldened security operatives to invade the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, calling the move unconstitutional and politically motivated.

“The deployment of armed personnel into a party office is an assault on democracy and freedom of association,” he said.

George urged the Federal Government, the National Security Adviser, and heads of security agencies to investigate the incident and withdraw those involved.

He cautioned that acts of political recklessness similar to past regional crises must not be allowed to recur.

“Despite provocations, PDP will continue to operate within the law. We are committed to peace, unity, and defending democracy,” he said, adding that the party remains focused on strengthening national stability and upholding democratic values.
