The House of Representatives has reversed its earlier decision to suspend plenary for one week over the non-payment of local contractors owed by the Federal Government.

Lawmakers had on Tuesday resolved to halt sittings after expressing anger over poor implementation of the capital components of the 2024 and 2025 budgets. They also issued a one-week ultimatum to the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu; and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, to settle the debts.

However, hours later, House spokesman Akin Rotimi announced that plenary would resume on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

He said the U-turn followed “positive developments” from government engagements aimed at addressing the lawmakers’ concerns, particularly regarding contractors’ payments and the release of funds.
According to an internal memo from the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the early resumption would allow the leadership to brief members on progress made in resolving the issues.
At Wednesday’s session, the House is expected to formally rescind its earlier adjournment and continue legislative proceedings. Members were urged to attend the plenary as scheduled.
