A video circulating on Tuesday showed the senator confronting immigration officers over what she described as an unlawful restriction of her movement. She said the incident marked the second time her passport had been withheld without any court order or criminal charge.

Natasha claimed she was told that the instruction to confiscate her passport came directly from the Senate President, allegedly over concerns that her foreign interviews “damage the image of the country.” The lawmaker condemned the act as harassment and a violation of her rights, urging relevant authorities to stop what she called repeated intimidation.

The petition, filed through her lawyer Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), alleged a coordinated effort involving criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and attempted assassination. It linked Akpabio to an online campaign allegedly run by a Texas-based Nigerian, Dr. Sandra Chidinma Duru, known on Facebook as “Professor Mgbeke.”
According to the petition, Duru’s broadcasts and posts formed part of a broader attempt to destroy the senator’s public image after she refused to engage in any “transactional dealings.” The documents also cited a live broadcast on May 1, where Duru’s exposed phone contact list allegedly contained Akpabio’s name along with several high-profile figures.
The ongoing dispute has raised concerns about political intimidation and abuse of power within the upper chamber, with many observers calling for a transparent investigation into the senator’s claims.
