The senator, who represents Kogi Central, had earlier accused immigration officers of withholding her travel document on the orders of Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She alleged that she was stopped from boarding her flight despite having no criminal record or court order restricting her movement.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, the NIS said its officers only conducted routine border clearance procedures on the lawmaker and did not confiscate her passport.

The service described the incident as a misunderstanding and maintained that no directive was issued by any external authority regarding Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s travel.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights during immigration checks across Nigerian airports.
