Supporters loyal to the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, staged a protest on Monday at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.

The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, demanded that the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Umar Damagum vacate the premises immediately.

The demonstration followed last week’s declaration of Abdulrahman as the Acting National Chairman of the party amid a deepening leadership crisis that has seen key officials suspended. The National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, were both suspended for one month.

In response, a rival faction loyal to Anyanwu held a separate meeting in Abuja, announcing the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC.
The protesters accused the Damagum leadership of mismanaging party affairs and vowed to take back control of the secretariat for Abdulrahman’s faction.
Security personnel were deployed around the building to maintain order as tensions escalated between the two rival groups.
