The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun an internal probe into allegations that some of its operatives extorted ₦10 million from Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

The musician alleged that he was forced to pay the sum to secure his release after being arrested alongside other suspected internet fraudsters.

In a statement issued on Saturday, November 1, 2025, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said the Commission views the accusation with utmost seriousness and has launched an investigation to uncover the truth.

According to Oyewale, all officers involved in the operation have been recalled to the EFCC headquarters and relieved of field duties pending the outcome of the inquiry.

He said the agency will not tolerate any form of misconduct, stressing that the alleged behaviour does not represent the EFCC’s core values.
Oyewale added that disciplinary action would be taken against any staff found guilty, but warned that if the rapper’s allegations prove false, necessary measures would also be taken against any attempt to damage the Commission’s reputation.
The EFCC called on the public to remain calm and assured that the investigation would be handled with transparency and fairness.
The incident comes at a time when public confidence in law enforcement agencies has been strained by recurring allegations of extortion and harassment, particularly during arrests involving young Nigerians and entertainers.
