President Bola Tinubu has ordered a review of the presidential pardon granted to 175 persons earlier approved at the National Council of State meeting on October 9, 2025, after widespread public backlash over the inclusion of individuals convicted of serious crimes.

In a statement on Wednesday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the review led to the removal of names linked to offences such as kidnapping, drug trafficking, human trafficking, fraud, and illegal arms possession.

He added that some individuals who had been pardoned in the initial list will now have their sentences reduced instead of being fully cleared.
