Speaking during a media parley with journalists in Abuja on Friday, Wike said he was unaware of any political pressure on Jonathan to run again, describing the reports as mere speculation.

“You’re the one telling me here. Jonathan has never told me he’s being pressured to run. If he calls me and asks, I’ll tell him my mind,” Wike said.

He criticised the spread of unverified information in the media, saying he would not rely on rumours to draw conclusions.

The minister also distanced himself from reports linking him to the endorsement of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) consensus candidate for national chairman ahead of the November 15–16 convention in Ibadan.

“I don’t know about Tanimu Turaki becoming chairman; maybe for another faction, not the PDP I know,” Wike said, adding that he doubts the legality of the planned convention and might not attend.
