Kanu’s Family Defends Sowore Over Protest Arrests

The family of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has rejected claims linking activist Omoyele Sowore to the arrest of Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, during Monday’s protest in Abuja.

Kanunta Kanu, speaking for the family, described the allegations as false and politically motivated. He said those accusing Sowore were spreading lies to divert attention from their own inaction.

He alleged that some southeastern political figures were behind the false claims, embarrassed that “a non-Igbo had the courage to do what they could not” — referring to Sowore’s role in organising the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest.

Kanunta urged critics to stop spreading misinformation, insisting that Sowore only acted within his rights as an activist to mobilise citizens against injustice.

The protest, which took place near the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, ended with arrests after police dispersed demonstrators demanding Kanu’s release.
