Residents of Enugu metropolis will experience a 10-day power outage as MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) begins major maintenance and repair works across several areas of the city.
The planned interruption, according to MEDL’s Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, is part of efforts to support ongoing projects by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at its New Haven Station. The project is aimed at strengthening the electricity infrastructure and improving power reliability in Enugu.
Ezeh said the outage would be carried out in segments from Wednesday, October 22, to Thursday, October 31, 2025, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. The exercise will affect several 33KV feeders, including Kingsway Line 1 and 2, Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, Thinkers Corner Line, Trans Ekulu Line, Ugwuogo Line, and Ituku Ozalla Line.
The schedule shows that Kingsway Line 1 will be shut down on October 22, followed by Emene Industrial Line 1 on October 23, Thinkers Corner Line on October 24, and Trans Ekulu Line on October 25. Kingsway Line 2 and 9th Mile Line will go off on October 26, Emene Industrial Line 2 on October 28, Ugwuogo Line on October 29, and Ituku Ozalla Line on October 31.
Areas to be affected include Emene Industrial Layout, Abakpa Nike, Trans-Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, 9th Mile, Shoprite, Golf Estate, Zoo Estate, Okpara Avenue, Kingsway Road, Abakaliki Road, CBN Quarters, Coal Camp, Asata, Uwani, Ologo Quarters, Ngwo, and Centenary City, among others.
Ezeh expressed regret over the inconvenience the outage may cause residents and businesses, urging them to remain patient and cooperate during the exercise. He said the maintenance work was essential to ensuring a more stable and efficient electricity supply across the metropolis once completed.
