Ogun PDP Backs Olawepo Hashim For 2027 Presidency

The race for the 2027 presidential election is gaining momentum as key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State have endorsed Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim to contest for the party’s presidential ticket.

The endorsement was made over the weekend under the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM), which described the decision as a turning point for the South-West and the end of what it called the “politics of entitlement.” The group said Ogun has become the centre of a growing political movement spreading across other South-West states.

The endorsement of Olawepo-Hashim has reportedly gained support in Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, and Oyo states, reflecting a coordinated effort to project him as the PDP’s leading candidate from the region. Members of the movement said his candidacy represents unity, competence, and a new direction for Nigeria’s leadership.

Speaking after the meeting, the Ogun State coordinator of GHSM, Hon. Gbenga Idowu, said the PDP in the South-West is ready to rally behind Olawepo-Hashim as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress. He accused the current administration of failing to deliver on its promises, noting that the country’s economy, security, and living standards have worsened.

Supporters at the event praised Olawepo-Hashim’s detailed economic recovery plan, which they said focuses on a $4 trillion development agenda anchored on industrial growth, power sector reform, agriculture, and job creation for young people. They also noted his national security proposal that seeks to reform defence institutions, strengthen intelligence systems, and promote community policing.

The group described Olawepo-Hashim as a bridge between the North and South, adding that his leadership approach offers clear ideas rather than political slogans. They said his candidacy reflects a fresh start for the PDP in the South-West and signals a revival of the region’s influence in national politics.

Olawepo-Hashim, a businessman, founding member of the PDP, and former presidential candidate, has been meeting stakeholders nationwide in recent months to build support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political observers believe the Ogun endorsement could reshape alliances in the South-West and strengthen the PDP’s position as parties begin early preparations for the presidential race.
