Wike’s Aide Dismisses 2027 Presidential Rumour Says Minister Backs Tinubu Till 2031

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, has dismissed claims that some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders are pushing Nyesom Wike to run for president in 2027.

In a statement on Friday, Olayinka described the report, circulated by an online platform, as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the country’s development.”

He stated that Wike’s loyalty to President Bola Tinubu remains firm, adding that “as far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031.”

Olayinka said the minister is open about his political stance and does not operate in secrecy. “Wike does what he says and says what he does. He has made it clear that in 2027, he is with President Tinubu,” he said.

He clarified that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, involved PDP stakeholders from southern Nigeria and was focused on preparations for another meeting scheduled in Lagos, not on any presidential ambition.

According to him, the outcome of that meeting was already made public through a press statement jointly signed by several PDP state chairmen and leaders, including representatives from Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states, as well as other top party officials.

Olayinka accused those spreading the false report of trying to tarnish Wike’s image, insisting that the minister’s commitment to Tinubu’s administration and the “Renewed Hope Agenda” remains unwavering.

He said Wike’s focus is on delivering world-class infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory to advance President Tinubu’s vision of a modern, globally competitive capital city.
